bookman vs. palatino

bookman and palatino are both serif typefaces. Bookman is more rounded and palatino is more pointy/angular. the x height of bookman is shorter than palatino's.  bookman has a wider set-width compared to palatino.

yes

Engravers Roman vs. Kabel Medium
Engravers is a serif typeface and Kabel is a sans serif.
Engravers has many modulations from thick to thins.  Kabel is a solid stroke throughout.
Both typefaces have distinguishable qualities about them. For instance. Kabel has shortened arms like in the lowercase "f" and.. shortened legs (?) like in the lowercase "j".
In Engravers, there are no differences between upper and lower case. I guess essentially, there is no lower case in engravers. Kabel has a short x-height.. Engravers doesn't really have one.. since they're all caps..

gah... i hate doing this..

okay .. this is officially getting hard..
but as for this weeks typeface comparisions..
Garamond vs. Baskerville
Both typefaces have serifs.
The set-width in baskerville is more than in garamond.
It seems like the x-heights are about the same for both typefaces..
Garamonts serifs are more rounded at the end compared to baskervilles.
The modulation in baskerville is more drastic than in garamond..

COCHIN AND GOUDY!

COCHIN AND GOUDY!
These two typefaces are both serif fonts. They are both similar in weight and modulation. The x-height in cochin is smaller than the x-height in Goudy. Also, the serifs differ slightly in these two typefaces. Cochin has a more pointy serif, and Goudy has a more squared serif. The upper serifs in the letters such as d, l, and h also make these two typefaces distinguishable. Cochin's are more horizontal, and have a slight dip in them. Goudy's are angled and point down to the bottom left. Other letters, such as y and j make these two distinct.

i thought maybe ... a different poster?
what do ya'll think?
cuttin' it close... i know

real world typeface examples..

Comparison:
Franklin Gothic has a much heavier weight than Futura. The set width of Franklin is also wider than Futura. Both typefaces are sans serif fonts. The cap height is greater is Futura than in Franklin. The x-height in Futura is also much lower than the x-height in Franklin.

i looked closely @ the length of the descencer in the "y" and realized it was too long in my drawing. i shortened it for that reason, and also with hopes that it would fix the awkwardness people discussed in class... i'm not sure if i like it... suggestions anyone? michele?
